Advancing the Heritage of Armenians in Jewellery
MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE TREASURES OF WESTERN ARMENIA INAUGURATION EVENT
The ceremonies hosted by the Saint Petersburg Museum of Ethnography and AJF on April 27, 2015, to launch the Treasures of Western Armenia catalogue and exhibit were widely covered in the media. Armenian channels Yerkir Media TV and 1TV.AM covered the event about the joint initiative with interviews and reports on the exhibit
(see Video 1 and video 2). Prior to the events, AJF's Chairman Pierre Akkelian was also interviewed on Civilnet in Yerevan (see full interview here).
The Treasures of Western Armenia catalogue is also earning high praise form the academic community. According to historian and genocide scholar George N. Shirinian, who is also the Executive Director of the Zoryan Institute and the International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies:
"There is very little information available in English on the distinctive and rich material culture of Western Armenia. This beautifully illustrated book provide a rare glimpse into the costume, jewellery and artifacts of Armenian daily life and provides a link to the lost Armenian cultural heritage, destroyed by the genocide of 1915."
The Treasures of Western Armenia catalogue was published jointly by AJF and the Museum of Ethnography. Production and printing activities were fully commissioned in Armenia. Copies will be available in select cities in the near future.
